Adams advised deadline for the Timberon Business Brochures is September 15th so that they can be updated and published by October 1st. Terry Borzini and Rick Merrick are helping him with the contacts. Everett Putney advised he talked with the Otero County Manager about permitting Frisby Golf to be built in the Mary Glover Park and into the Shallow Creek Park. She gave us her go ahead to provide it. Everett said he stopped in Cloudcroft to look at their Frisby golf and they have a very nice set up. The cost to provide this could be between $8,000 to $15,000 dollars. Rick Merrick advised the enthusiasm for this is higher than we think. TDC is looking for sponsors to share with the cost. Jan Swinney suggested sponsoring a dinner to help raise money for this project. Rick Merrick advised Jeanne Love is taking care of our TDC web site and is doing a great job. There was discussion concerning the telephone service in Timberon and the lost calls businesses are experiencing. Bill Wausen, Manager of Dell Telephone explained all long distance calls coming into New Mexico are routed through Lubbock, Texas or Albuquerque, New Mexico and they have the option of routing the call or not to Timberon. This problem is nationwide and the small co-ops are having problems because of it. The co-ops are trying to get the FCC to mandate the calls go through. If you are experiencing problems you should report it to the FCC. You need to have available when you call: where the call is from, time of day, the long distance carrier and if you are a business, how much business you are losing. Dell Telephone is working on installing new wireless data service and it will be usable in a few months. Fiber optics to the home is way down the road. Presently fiber optics just comes to the telephone office only. Everett thanked Bill for attending and bringing us up to date. New Business: The Welcome Wagon needs information as to who is here. The contact number for the Welcome Wagon is on the web site. They are also working with the Fire Department to help fire prevention. Page 2 There was discussion concerning ATV’s in general. This responsibility is now under Game and Fish in New Mexico and they are enforcing the rules. If you own an ATV please review the guidelines so you are aware of what you can and cannot do when riding in New Mexico. It was suggested we include the guidelines in the Welcome Wagon information. It was mentioned there will be legislative action later to make the ATV laws the same as in Arizona. It was recommended we ask Otero County if the County could implement some type of ATV guidelines. Everett Putney mentioned he and Jackie Fioretti will attend a South Central Mountain Resource Conservation and Development (SCMRC&D) annual meeting in Ruidoso, New Mexico on September 18, 2012. The Federal Government has withdrawn the funds for all RC&D Directors. The South Central Mountain RC&D is one of a few RC&D’s in New Mexico which was able to continue supporting a Director. Some Timberon property owners have received funds from the SCMRC&D for thinning their property while others are waiting until funds are available. Money to thin the five acres was also provided by the RC&D. Rick Merrick presented the beautiful afghan that Joy and Fredrick Alden donated to be raffled at the Blues and Barbeque Festival next year. Rick made a motion on behalf of Bobbie Brown to donate $50.00 to the Timberon Chapel on behalf of Richard Farris. B. F. Adams seconded the motion and it passed. Richard donated a lot of his time at the recent Timberon Fly-In and did a lot of the cooking for TDC and this is a small token of our appreciation. Rick, Everett and Jackie will be attending a promotion meeting in El Paso on September 12th at Mulligan’s concerning the Blues and Barbeque Festival to be held the last week end in July, 2013. Jackie Fioretti made a motion to pay Rick Merrick as coordinator for his expenses to attend this meeting. John Noel seconded the motion and it passed. Rick also reminded everyone TDC is looking for a Secretary to replace Jackie Fioretti starting in January. B. F. Adams advised he has the annual “Putting on the Lips” DVD ready. The cost is $10.00 and if you want it mailed it will be $12.00. Call B. F. if you want one. They will also be available at the Timberon Mall, Timberon Gallery, Post Office and at the Deli.
