Pledge Allegiance to the Flag was given, and a prayer was offered by B. F. Adams. Everett asked if anyone wanted the minutes read. A motion was made by B. F. Adams and seconded by Gwen Adams to accept the July minutes. Motion passed. The Treasurer’s report for July was given by Shirley Holstrom. A motion was made by Fran Trendler and seconded by John Noel to accept the report and the motion passed. Bills that totaled $409.77 for the month of July was submitted for approval. A motion was made by Rick Merrick and seconded by Gwen Adams to pay the bills. The motion passed. Old Business: Events Coordinator, Rick Merrick thanked everyone for their support in making the Timberon Blues & BBQ Festival on June 30th and July 1st a big success. He said the volunteer appreciation dinner is today at 1:00 pm at the red barn. All volunteer t-shirts will be $10.00 today only and they will be available at the dinner. Rick introduced Mike McFee and Barbara from the El Paso Blues Society. Rick advised according to our agreement the El Paso Blues Society should receivrae $730.69. A motion was made by John Noel and seconded by Fran Trendler to pay the El Paso Blues Society $730.69. The motion passed. B.F. Adams thanked the Blues Society for their support in making the event successful and thanked Rick Merrick for all of his coordination and hard work. After discussion Rick Merrick made a motion to have the annual Timberon Blues & Barbeque Festival the last week end in July. Dave Eerkes seconded the motion and it passed. Thanks was given to Kent Huisingh for all of his work toward making the event a big success. Everett thanked Rick Merrick again for all of his coordination efforts. Rick gave a report on the Business Brochures. He will work with Terry Borzini in order to meet the October 1st deadline. If you are interested in a new ad in the brochure please call B.F. Adams. Rick is working with TWSD to identify projects TDC can help with. Joan Eerkes gave us information on the recycling in Cloudcroft. They will accept just about everything except glass. The information came from the Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce. Jackie Fioretti advised she is working on the bids for the donated property submitted at the last meeting. New Business: Everett Putney reported on the Timberon Volunteer Fire Department Appreciation dinner he and Jackie Fioretti attended. TDC was awarded two recognition plaques for supporting Fire Prevention. Rick Merrick mentioned the problems with telephone service in Timbeon and the potential business he is loosing. Others are having some of the same problems. After discussion B.F. Adams made a motion and seconded by John Noel for TDC to write a letter to Dell Telephone expressing our concerns. The motion passed. It was mentioned other businesses in Timberon should also write a letter. Shirley Holstrom read the correspondence received by TDC. A letter from Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce requested sponsorship for the 19th annual Lumberjack Days to be held in Cloudcroft on September 19th. After discussion, Gwen Adams made a motion and seconded by Joan Eerkes to support the event with a Tier 1 donation of $100.00. Other correspondence was received from Gulf Coast Research and the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce. There was discussion about the school supplies Susie Sims provided for fifteen children in Timberon. Fran Trendler made a motion and seconded by B.F. Adams to reimburse Susie Sims $98.92 for part of the school supplies. The motion passed. Rick Merrick said he knows someone who would like to donate a computer to TDC. Rick will follow through on this. The Timberon Volunteer Fire Department will have a giant garage sale on Labor Day. The TDC 2013 Officer elections are right around the corner. We are looking for a Secretary to replace Jackie Fioretti who will not run for the position. Nominations are in October, the election is in November and new officers take over in January 2013. Recognition of newcomers in Timberon was discussed. B.F. Adams made a motion and seconded by Fran Trendler for TDC to sponsor a “Welcome Wagon Committee”. The motion passed. Gwen Adams volunteered to be the chairman for this committee. Our new Webmaster for TDC is Jeanie Love. She has received the information in order to do this. Frisby Golf Disc was discussed and Mark Cruey would like to give a demonstration of this game at the Mary Glover Park this afternoon. Everett Putney will follow through with the Otero County manager on the liability of providing this. Bingo is tonight at the Lodge and Rick Merrick donated a T-Shirt as one of the prizes. A motion to adjourn was made by Dave Eerkes and seconded by John Noel. The motion passed and the meeting was adjourned at 11:45am. The next meeting of the Timberon Development Council will be held at the Timberon Lodge, September 08, 2012 at 10:00 AM. These are open meetings and anyone may attend.
