TIMBERON DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL Minutes of the Meeting Held June 11, 2011 IN ATTENDANCE: Everett Putney Fran Trendler Judy Underwood Bobbie Brown Cal Tyler Mary Tyler Charlie Ross B. F. Cosgrove Yvonne Ross John Howell Jackie Fioretti The TDC meeting was called to order by President Everett Putney at 10:05 AM. Allegiance to the flag was given by all and a prayer was given by B. F. Adams. Everett asked if anyone wanted the minutes read from the last meeting. Jackie Fioretti gave several corrections to the minutes. A motion was made by B. F. Adams and seconded by Charlie Ross to accept the minutes as corrected. The minutes were approved. Fran Trendler gave the February Treasurers report which was corrected but has not been approved and the May Treasurers report. A motion was made by Gwen Adams and seconded by Cal Tyler to accept the February corrected report and the May report. The motion was approved. Bills totaled $157.84 which included reimbursement to Jackie Fioretti for office supplies and website maintenance from November 2010 through May 2011 for Judy Underwood. Bobbie Brown made a motion to pay our bills and Karen Mainello seconded the motion which was approved. Gwen Adams advised Cloudcroft has a webcam and there is advertising on that site. Judy Underwood will look into the possibility of linking the webcam to the TDC website and how much it would cost. Old Business: TDC granted two $500.00 Scholarships to be used for college. Mitchell Goss and Jacob Worrell were granted the scholarships but could not be present to accept their check as they were working. President Putney presented Jacob’s proud parents, Kathy and Stephen Worrell, with Jacob’s check. We will mail Mitchell’s check to him. Kathy Worrell representing the Timberon Volunteer Fire Department gave Sean Ross’s $500 Scholarship check to his proud mother Yvonne Ross. We wish all three a very successful future in their endeavors. The State Forestry Tree Thinning Grant money is not available at present but a list is being compiled of those who are interested in thinning their property. Gwen Adams advised she and Joan Schug are working on the Labor Day Community Pot Luck Dinner in Mary Glover Park. They need help and if you are interested in helping please call Page 2 Gwen. After discussion it was agreed TDC would sponsor the function on Monday, September 05, 2011 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and will provide the brisket and drinks. Everett Putney thanked Bill and Bobbie Brown for all of their work on the NM Pilot Association Fly In last month. We had 13 pilots register for the occasion and all who attended had a great time. We had pilots attending from California, Roswell, Alamogordo, Artesia, Albuquerque and Anthony, New Mexico and various other locations. Everyone had such a good time there is talk of doing it again next year. A Timberon Welcome Center & Art Gallery was discussed. Larry Hansen wants $250.00 per month for his vacant space at the post office building. Judy Underwood advised she met with a group of artists and they are not willing to pay the amount it would take to maintain an art gallery. The artists would like to have four shows per year. Judy advised she checked into providing the welcome center at the Timberon Mall. The owner was willing to provide us the space on the outside of the building. Judy checked into all of the free material available for the welcome center and a 4'w X 6'h display unit. Material for the display unit would cost around $400.00. After discussion, it was agreed there are several possibilities which will be looked into and bring to the next meeting. Jackie Fioretti reported a letter from President Putney was sent to Jordan Enterprises, LLC for the property on Dixwood and we have not received another bid. After discussion, Gwen Adams made a motion to send the $109.00 earnest money back to them. The motion was seconded by Karen Mainello and the motion passed. New Business: Everett advised he attended the Otero County Commissioners work session on June 7th in support of RC&D. Money is tight and it was mentioned in the meeting that some States are not asking for any federal money due to the federal government being trillions of dollars in debt. The last time Everett checked with Otero County on stripping the airstrip it would cost approximately $2,000.00. He will contact the County Manager and County Road Superintendant about stripping the airstrip and also putting an herbicide on the weeds. It was mentioned that TWSD plans to start charging us to meet in the Community Lodge. After discussion Judy Underwood made a motion for TDC to move the meetings back to the red barn. Gwen Adams seconded the motion and it was approved. It was mentioned that we need to post notice of the meeting on the community bulletin board outside the post office. After the meeting there was conversation to continue meeting at the Community Lodge in order to support the community. Labor of Love was discussed and Gwen Adams made a motion for TDC to sponsor the Labor of Love and provide publicity and drinks. Fran Trendler seconded the motion and it was approved. Judy Underwood made a motion and seconded by Fran Trendler to adjourn the meeting at approximately 11:20 am. Motion passed.
